Tumaco with its hot tropical climate is a magnet for beachgoers in the weekends and holiday season. Morro Beach (Playa de Morro) with a beachfront backed by a row
of confortable hotels draws people to come from the closest cities like Pasto, Ipiales and Popayan to enjoy all that the coast has to offer. Tumaco located on the
Pacific coast in south-west Colombia is also a port city and only 30kms north from the border of Ecuador and San Lorenzo (20kms south of the border). You can get
to Tumaco by bus from Pasto (5hrs) or take a flight from Cali. Morro Beach (Playa de Morro)
Tumaco's principal landmarks are the small island in the bay, the rock archway and the large colored letters
that spell out the name of the city in front of the beach. Apart from these things the water is the main attraction here! We are talking kitesurfing, swimming,
beach soccer, boat rides around the island and the rocket-boat ride where everyone is towed along by another boat and then eventually everyone falls into the water.
If you prefer to take it easy relaxing in a chair under an umbrella while drinking something nice and cold, then that is also an option here in Tumaco.
Tourist Recommendation
Tumaco is
a great beach and place for the locals of Colombia from the cities nearby but for tourists I would recommend to go up to the north coast to enjoy the Colombian coast around the
Santa Marta area or in
Tolu / Tintipan Island.
