Monteria is often overlooked by travelers but is worth a visit to enjoy a stroll through the park beside the river and spotting some of the many iguanas, birds
and other animals that live here. Monteria is also the perfect gateway to places like Tolu and Mompos and is easily accessible with flights from both Bogota and
Medellin. Monteria is a hot place, it's best to get out early, take a break in the middle of the day and get back out again after 3pm. The best place to stay in
Monteria is at one of the hotels on the 1st Avenue in front of the park and river but there are cheaper options a few streets back from here. As I have discovered
many times all around South America, in a river city, the river is always the heart and soul. River Park - Parque Ronda del Sinu
The park - Parque Ronda del Sinu beside the Sinu River is where you will spend
most of your time in Monteria and where the locals come to walk, run, cycle, cross the waters, eat, relax, swim and enjoy themselves. The area is well-policed and
family-friendly. Inside the park is a dedicated cycle lane with seperate walking paths. There are areas in the shade to sit under the many trees and beautiful nature
all around. Be on the lookout for iguanas and birds. They say sometimes there are also monkeys and sloths in the trees. Food is available at several restaurants
and cafes inside the park. Have a great time here with friends and family!
Attractions In Monteria
Other attractions in Monteria include the Plaza Cultural del Sinu where performances and events
are held. The center of arts and crafts - Centro Cultural y Artesanal. The tourist wharf for boat excursions along the river. The lookout tower - Mirador Ronda del
Sinu for fantastic views, this is in the northern part of the park and you need a taxi to come here. The Cathedral of Saint Jeronimo and Plaza (park) Simon Bolivar
not far from the river. The bridge over the river is an important city landmark. There is also a tour company -
PaqueTours who offer a range of tours to places in
and around Monteria including a trip to Capurgana - a remote beach near the border of Panana!
