Boyaca is a nice region in Colombia north of Bogota where there are many small towns and medium-sized cities to discover and explore. Duitama, Paipa and Sogamoso
are 3 such places. Other places in the region worth visiting include Tunja, Zipaquira, Villa de Leyva and Guatavita. Duitama, Paipa and Sogamoso are just 2hrs by
bus north of Bogota and are all close together (20-30mins between each place) and each place has something very special to see! Paipa
Paipa is a municipality that is
very close to Lake Sochacota. You can walk or ride a bicycle to the lake from town. They have boat excursions on mainly Saturdays and Sundays. Paipa is also
famous for its thermal swimming pools and has some nice restaurants to try the local food.
Duitama
Duitama is the biggest city of the 3 and its main tourist
attraction is the village called Pueblito Boyacense (1996) where you can see colonial houses. The village was created to serve as a home for musicians, poets,
writers and art lovers. Located just a few minutes from town by taxi.
Sogamoso
Sogamoso is a good city to see the shops and explore the streets. Sogamoso features street
art and murals by local artist
Edgar Diaz. His work is all around the city! Sogamoso also has an archaeology museum and Lake Tota is nearby. The city has various celebrations and festivals throughout the year.
