A visit to Santa Fe de Antioquia makes a great day trip or overnight stay from Medellin. With well-preserved colonial architecture, old churches and cobblestone streets, there is much to be enchanted by in this small town just 57kms from the northern bus terminal in Medellin. Enjoy tasty food around the main plaza or at one of the great restaurants in the sidestreets, relax with pleasant surroundings and enjoy some time outside the big city. Like Jardin, Salento, Guatape, Villa de Leyva and various other small towns in Colombia, Santa Fe de Antioquia is another special place you must visit in this country!

Hot Weather - Great Hotel

The temperature is hot here in Santa Fe, hotter than Medellin, you might like to stay at a hotel with a big swimming pool such as the one where I stayed - Las Palmeras Hotel Colonial just half a block from the main plaza / park. The rooms in this hotel are absolutely amazing too, you can't go wrong at around $40USD (1 person). I imagine the price for 2 people would be less than double this price, you'll need to enquire about that.

Churches in Santa Fe

Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of the Inmaculada Concepcion (1797-1837) was built in neoclassical and baroque style and is located at the main plaza / park. Our Lady of Chiquinquira Temple was built between 1863 and 1868 in neoclassical style. Originally a hermitage was at this site which was built around 1650. Saint Barbara Temple is the oldest church in Santa Fe de Antioquia. Its construction began in 1727 and was completed in 1795 and is built in baroque style. My Father Jesus Temple (1828-1845). This temple has neoclassical style with baroque details.

Museums in Santa Fe

Santa Fe de Antioquia also has 2 museums to enjoy - the Juan del Corral Heritage Museum and the Francisco Cristobal Toro Museum of Religious Art.
