Mar del Plata is Argentina's top beach resort city and is located 5hrs by bus south of Buenos Aires. The summer months bring huge crowds so book a
hotel early because although there are 100's of hotels, they become full very fast. With 10kms of beaches along the coast there is summer fun for
everybody in Mar del Plata with surfing, swimming and many other types of outdoor activities! Waterfront Walking
The waterfront boasts some of the
great sights to see in Mar del Plata including the castle / tower (Torreon del Monje) built in 1927. A long walk towards the port from the city
center is spectacular with great views of the rocky coastline with waves splashing and crashing upon it. There are green grassy banks littered
with pink flowers and great views of the city, beach and high rise apartment buildings looking back.
Tanque Tower - Iconic Building
Tanque Tower (Torre Tanque), is another emblem
of Mar del Plata. An 88 meter high tower built in 1943. You can climb the stairs to the top for great views of the city from 8am-3pm (mon-fri).
The tower was an important water supply point originally.
The Aquarium
The aquarium near the lighthouse on the coast is another popular visitors spot
in Mar del Plata. You can see penguins, dolphins, seals, sealions, flamingos, fish and exotic birds. There are shows at various times of the
day for the dolphins.
Enjoy Mar del Plata
Mar del Plata is an outstanding beach destination in Argentina with a lot to enjoy in and out of the water.
The most northern of beaches in the country on the coast with great summer weather and a city catering for everybody and everything. Bahia Blanca is 7hrs by bus west from here.
