I traveled south from Mercedes to Carmelo on Route 21 which takes 2hrs (105kms).
The bus passes through the small cities of Dolores and Palmira, it is a scenic journey. To Dolores
During the first hour to Dolores you
pass many cattle farms with their windmills, tractors and rows of tall trees. We stopped in Dolores for about 15mins and I had a quick
look around the main plaza - Plaza Constitucion. It's an attractive plaza with monument 'Accion de Dolores' and the cathedral on one
side. There are tall palm trees and some smaller trees with magneta colored flowers, very nice indeed.
To and Through Palmira
Continuing out of Dolores
you pass more interesting and beautiful countryside - flat and open, the yellow leaves of the trees glistening in the sun and glowing
golden hay bales laying in the fields. We arrived in Palmira as the sun was setting, the streets and houses were draped in a captivating
orange / gold color as the sun went down. Palmira has many historic buildings and houses, the trees make interesting and picturesque
patterns on their facades. I caught some of these sights with my camera as the bus quickly passed through the city without stopping. Shortly after we arrived in
Carmelo.
