Tolu, a beach town easily accessible from Monteria, Cartagena and Mompos on Colombia's north coast is the gateway to Tintipan Island and other islands of the
archipelago in the Gulf of Morrosquillo. Come here to enjoy sun, beaches, swimming, snorkeling, diving the coral reefs, shady palm trees, kayaking, walking,
collecting shells and relaxing. There is a lot of accommodation in Tolu for all budgets, from hostels to hotels, especially along the road in front of the beach.
Tintipan Island also has accommodation including hotels in the middle of the ocean. Tintipan Island can also be accessed by boat on a tour from Cartagena.
In Tolu and on Tintipan Island, many of the meals are based on fish, basic meals, but international food can also be found. In Tolu with the help of a local
bicycle-taxi you can get to other beaches in the area. There are many options to enjoy activities in the hot tropical weather of Colombia's northern coast.
Enjoy Tintipan Island
Tours to Tintipan Island leave from the port in Tolu and it only takes around 1hr to get out. The cost for the return boat trip including lunch on the island
is around $30USD (day trip). The boat stops at various islands and beaches along the journey out to Tintipan including Islote, a densely populated island where
the locals live. One of the first things you will see when arriving at Tintipan Island is the big hotel out in the water called
La Gaviota. If you are looking
for a luxury stay at Tintipan, this could well be it. Once at Tintipan, lay back in a hammock, enjoy a drink and let the hours tick by. You can stay the night or head back to Tolu, the choice is yours. Have fun at Tintipan!
