Hotel Altos del Estero, Santiago del Estero, Argentina (December 2021 - 1 night) - Hotel Altos del Estero in Santiago del Estero is a very nice hotel and well-priced at $35USD. Comfortable bed, outside patio, fridge, aircon, private bathroom, tv, wifi and breakfast included. Enjoy the views over the city from the higher floors. Located around the city center. Recommended.

Francia Hotel, Tucuman, Argentina (December 2021 - 3 nights) - Very comfortable room at Francia Hotel for $32USD and located just 1 block from the main square in Tucuman. Beautiful big bed, nice bathroom, fridge, aircon, tv, wifi and with breakfast included. A great price for 1 person. Recommended.

Hotel Intihuasi, Catamarca, Argentina (December 2021 - 1 night) - Not a particularly posh room at Hotel Intihuasi in Catamarca for $30USD. But the room had aircon which is importrant in this hot city. Comfortable bed, private bathroom, wifi and breakfast included. Located just a couple of blocks up from the main square.

Plaza Hotel, La Rioja, Argentina (December 2021 - 2 nights) - Plaza Hotel in La Rioja is very nice and well-priced at $30USD for 1 person. Nice room with large comfortable bed, private bathroom, work desk and chair, aircon, balcony, big tv and wifi. Located of course at the plaza on the corner. Friendly staff and an easy-going, non-formal atmosphere. Recommended.

Hotel Libertador, La Rioja, Argentina (December 2021 - 1 night) - Single bed at a cost of $25USD for 1 person. Small room with a private bathroom, not overly fancy. Located a couple of blocks from the plaza in La Rioja. Breakfast is included. A cheaper and popular option in the city.

Hotel Regional, San Rafael, Argentina (December 2021 - 1 night) - A very nice and large room with balcony overlooking the main street. Big double bed but a little too firm though. Large bathroom, desk and chair. Priced at $35USD, breakfast is included, a very good breakfast actually. The staff are friendly and helpful. A good price for San Rafael and good quality.

Dali Hotel, San Rafael, Argentina (December 2021 - 1 night) - Dali Hotel in San Rafael at $27USD is well-priced compared to the other hotels in the area. Single bed, private bathroom and wifi. Located near the cathedral and the main street where there are shops and restaurants closeby. Breakfast is included and the staff are friendly and helpful. Recommended.

Hosteria Residencial Rio Atuel, Santa Rosa, Argentina (December 2021 - 1 night) - A nice room with comfortable bed from the morning until the evening for $20USD (half day rate). Located across the road from the bus terminal in Santa Rosa. Private bathroom and very spacious room with tv and spare beds. A convenient place to rest for the day between night buses, close to shops and a few blocks from the plaza.

Emmaus Hotel, Neuquen, Argentina (December 2021 - 3 nights) - Emmaus Hotel in Neuquen at $30USD for a single room is a good deal. Centrally located near shops and parks. Breakfast is included, a good wifi signal, tv and hot water. Room with a window out to the street and heating at night. Friendly and helpful staff, clean and secure. There are several hotels in this area in Neuquen. Recommended.

Residencial Marisa, Junin de los Andes, Argentina (December 2021 - 2 nights) - Residencial Marisa in Junin de los Andes at $25USD is a great deal in this town and you can pay with your card unlike the places down by the river who charge $4000 pesos and want it in cash. Paying cash in Argentina is a foolish thing to do because most cash machines only give a maximum of $4000 pesos and take another $1000 pesos for the transaction fee. Paying cash in Argentina is a quick way to go broke so don't fall for it! Comfortable room, private bathroom, good wifi signal, tv and with breakfast included. Located just 1 block from the bus terminal on the main highway. The bed had nice sheets and although a single bed I slept very well here. I didn't have hot water in the shower, strange but still recommended.

Hotel Paris, Rio Gallegos, Argentina (November 2021 - 2 nights) - Hotel Paris in Rio Gallegos is centrally located on the main street with shops all around. At $23USD for 1 person is well-priced compared to other hotels in the area. Breakfast is included. Argentinians get preferential treatment though, with better rooms and get served breakfast before you even if you sit down at the table before them. Foreigners may be better off somewhere else.

El Alamo Hosteria, Comondante Luis Piedrabuena, Argentina (November 2021 - 1 night) - A very nice room with a double bed and a loft for $25USD at El Alamo Hosteria in Comondante Luis Piedrabuena. Located slightly out of the center of town but only a 15min walk to get there from the bus terminal. Private bathroom, tv, wifi and good heating. Well-priced and a good deal. Recommended.

Costanera Hotel, Puerto San Julian, Argentina (November 2021 - 2 nights) - Costanera Hotel in Puerto San Julian is a great hotel and very comfortable at $35USD. Big room with private bathroom and good heating, hot water, wifi and tv. The staff are very helpful and there is a restaurant also. Located on the waterfront with views out to the sea near the airplane monument. Recommended.

Hotel Hueso, Caleta Olivia, Argentina (November 2021 - 1 night) - Hotel Hueso was the cheapest hotel I stayed at on the east coast of Argentina at $17USD but by far not the worst. In fact it was great! Private room with bathroom, single bed and window out to the street. Located in the center of the city not far from shops and just a few blocks from the beach. Friendly and helpful staff. Recommended for budget travelers.

Hotel Gonce, Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina (November 2021 - 1 night) - Really? $25USD for a horrible room with a shared bathroom. I find that hard to believe! I doubt this is the real price, impossible. The only good thing about it was that it had a double bed. If you pay $2500 pesos you should get a reasonably nice room but Hotel Gonce is just yuk. Avoid this hotel at any cost!

Hostel Kalo, Puerto Madryn, Argentina (November 2021 - 2 nights) - Hostel Kalo is located across the road from the bus terminal in Puerto Madryn but is overpriced at $30USD. The room is simple with a private bathroom and lukewarm water. I couldn't watch the tv because there was no power point in its position in the room but good wifi signal. The room had 4 bunk beds but they are firm so was comfortable for me. I hate unfirm beds. The breakfast didn't look like much and I didn't bother. They said I could pay with my card when they brought in the machine but they never brought it in so I had to go to a cash machine yet again (everyday in Argentina you have to go to the cash machine because the machines only give small amounts of money each time, ridiculous). Apart from the male owner all the other staff are grumpy.

Bahia Hotel, Bahia Blanca, Argentina (November 2021 - 2 nights) - At $27USD for 1 person Bahia Hotel is overpriced for the less than fantastic room I slept in. As always in Argentina the bed ruins the hotel experience. Do they not understand this? The location is OK, reasonably central with shops close by. But if you are going to charge this much money then I expect a good double bed. They offer breakfast but I didn't partake because I don't like sweet pastries for breakfast. There are many better options in Bahia Blanca but you won't get anything good unless you pay much more. Argentina has nothing to offer in hotels for the price like Peru and Colombia do!

Hostal de Los Angeles, Barranca, Peru (September 2021 - 1 night) - For $30 soles a room can be had at Hostal de Los Angeles in Barranca. An adequate room for the price with bed, private bathroom with hot water and tv. Located in an area with shops and some restaurants. The place is secure with a locked door. For better hotels in Barranca walk up the road further towards the center of town.

Rizza Hotel, Chiclayo, Peru (August 2021 - 3 nights) - Rizza Hotel in Chiclayo at $110 soles for 1 person offers a nice room with many things. Big double bed, private bathroom with hot water, aircon, a fan, a fridge, 2 or 3 tables. large mirror, wardrobe, tv, wifi and a window and view out to the street. Rooms are cleaned daily and breakfast is included - yes fresh bread! Located around 200m from the main Plaza. Recommended.

Barza Hotel, Chota, Peru (August 2021 - 1 night) - Barza Hotel at $45 soles was good on the surface but I had to change rooms because the room upstairs was not seperated properly from mine. I could hear clearly the conversation of the people in the room above me. There is a gap somewhere in the design of the windows, my ceiling and their floor. The room was OK but there is nothing worse than non-privacy. 1 night and that was all for me here.

Hospedaje Cubas, Moyobamba, Peru (August 2021 - 1 night) - Hospedaje Cubas in Moyobamba offers a beautiful new room with big curtains and big windows for $40 soles per night for 1 person. With TV, wifi, private bathroom and a comfortable bed this was a huge leap ahead of what I found in Tarapoto for the price. Walking along the street in Moyobamba, Hospedaje Cubas looked like the right choice from the outside and I wasn't dissapointed. Recommended.

Hotel San Francisco, Quibdo, Colombia (February 2021 - 2 nights) - For around $33USD you can get a great room at Hotel San Francisco in Quibdo. A room with a big view overlooking the city (shanty town), a big bed, a jacuzzi, a kitchen with fridge, aircon, tv and wifi. This is possibly the best hotel in the inner city and there is an elevator to take you up and down the 5 floors. Hotel San Francisco is secure with helpful and friendly staff. Recommended.

Hotel Escorial, Pitalito, Colombia (January 2021 - 1 night) - With a nice room leading out to a large balcony overlooking the street, Hotel Escorial in Pitalito is a great choice for around $13USD. I stayed in Pitalito after traveling 5hrs from Florencia on my way to San Agustin. Pitalito is a transport hub in a way and a good place to stop for the night. The room is nice with a good bed, private bathroom, tv and wifi. Recommended.

Hotel Brisas del Cauca, La Pintada, Colombia (September 2020 - 1 night) - From the southern bus terminal in Medellin, a bus 3hrs south will bring you across the mountains to La Pintada. It's a short distance but takes a long time because of the many trucks and a road without passing lanes. La Pintada is a good place to stop for the night either heading to or from Medellin. The main road has several hotel choices. Hotel Brisas del Cauca is on the corner of the main road and the side street. A comfortable room with private bathroom, wifi and a large open patio outside overlooking the main road. At $11USD per night it is a good option. From La Pintada you can head west to Jardin, south to Pereira or north to Medellin.

Hotel La Pintada, La Pintada, Colombia (May 2018 - 1 night) - For just $35000 pesos you get a room with all the bells and whistles at Hotel La Pintada! Private room with balcony, bathroom, tv, wifi, air conditioner and fridge on the 3rd floor! Great deal, great price. La Pintada is a busy junction 2hrs south of Medellin. The street is noisy with trucks and activity but it's a place to break the journey.

Eco Hostel, Temuco, Chile (October 2017 - 1 night) - Speaking from just my own experience! After over 20hrs of traveling from Colombia, airports, planes, hotels etc I arrived in Temuco and paid for a room at this hostel, $15000 pesos ($23USD). Private room, shared bathroom. I had to make my own curtain out of the bedspread and tape it up with thick cellotape. I was so tired I went to sleep during the day very quickly. When I awoke I realised that my whole bed stunk of cat urine, it was unbearable. I quickly changed to the other bed in the room and informed the staff about the problem. I left Temuco pretty quickly, it was raining and the room wasn't so inviting!

Pousada Portal Da Cidade, Aracaju, Brazil (February 2017 - 1 night) - I stayed in Aracaju as a way to break the 8+hr journey by bus from Salvador to Penedo. The hotels I found in the center were overpriced and the city isn't that exciting anyway so I headed back to the bus terminal and found this place directly across the road from it. $80 Reals for a very comfortable room and a restaurant downstairs with self-service buffet food. Great location to make a quick getaway in the morning!

Hotel Comedor Dona Delia, Concordia, Argentina (April 2016 - 7hrs) - A cheap dive behind the shops opposite the bus terminal in Concordia. A place to rest your head for a few hours like I did while waiting for a night bus to better places. Horrible little room, shared bathrooms. Serves it's purpose at $10USD.

Posada El Pozo, Mochima, Venezuela (May 2013 - 1 night) - The best place I could find in town for a budget traveller. Nice room with TV, air-con and bathroom all at a reasonable price. Nice staff and family. Recommended.

Residencial Las Gemelas, Montufar, Ecuador (May 2010 - 1 night) - The rooms were decorated with wierd things, more like a bedroom than a hotel room, the bed wasn't great and he charged me too much for the short time that I stayed, my shower didn't work either.

Backpacker's Tucuman, Tucuman, Argentina (Aug 2008 - 2 nights) - Nice spacious place to stay at with cool friendly staff, great location!

Hotel Victoria, Corrientes, Argentina (May 2009 - 1 night) - Pretty nice room, good price for being just a street or 2 away from the really expensive hotels by the plaza. After having a look in the area at other hotels that were way too expensive, this was the best option.
